Burton ble startet i en låve i Vermont, USA i 1977 av Jake Burton. Burton har pushet snowboard siden dag 1 og er i dag en ledende motor i brettbransjen. Første serieproduksjon startet i 1984 i Innsbruck, Europa. Siden den gang har det gått slag i slag og nå er Burton det mest kjente merket innen snowboarding.
